Artist's Description
Captured by award winning photographer Joan Davis in February of 2017 during a visit to the Florida Horse Park Horse Trials in Ocala, FL. Eventing is an Olympic equestrian discipline where a single horse and rider combination compete against other combinations in three separate phases which are dressage, cross country and show jumping. The equestrian disciplines are the only Olympic sports where men and women compete against each other. The object of the cross country phase is to prove the speed, bravery, endurance and jumping ability of the horse. It is the heart of the sport.
The horse photographed here has just dropped into the water and is preparing to jump an obstacle actually in the water. His rider has prepared him perfectly as you see him lift up to jump the fence in front of him, the spray from the water filled protection boots filling the frame of the image.

About Joan Davis
ABOUT JOAN DAVIS Joan Davis has spent her entire life surrounded by horses – first as a trainer and a competitor – and now as a photographer. A riding accident forced her permanently out of the saddle in 2001. Her camera is the way she stays connected to the animals she so loves. Most weekends she can be found behind the lens of her Canon camera photographing horses riders competing in the sportl of eventing. On occasion, she is able to sneak away for some non-equine adventures with her camera. You will find some of those photos here. Please enjoy this journey with her through her photography.
