Captured by award winning photographer Joan Davis in the spring of 2013 during the Sombrero Ranch Great American Horse Drive. After a long winter out to pasture, up to 600 horses make the 50 mile trek back to the ranch where they will be prepped for another season of work at the state parks, dude ranches and summer camps. As they continue their journey across the hills and through the ravines, storm clouds gather in the background.
ABOUT JOAN DAVIS Joan Davis has spent her entire life surrounded by horses – first as a trainer and a competitor – and now as a photographer. A riding accident forced her permanently out of the saddle in 2001. Her camera is the way she stays connected to the animals she so loves. Most weekends she can be found behind the lens of her Canon camera photographing horses riders competing in the sportl of eventing. On occasion, she is able to sneak away for some non-equine adventures with her camera. You will find some of those photos here. Please enjoy this journey with her through her photography.
