Description
Captured by award winning photographer Joan Davis of Flatlandsfoto during the summer solstice in 2014 during her trip to Iceland. This black sand beach in the village of Vik has been called as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. Its stretch of black basalt sand is one of the wettest places in Iceland. The cliffs west of the beach are home to many seabirds, most notably puffins which burrow into the shallow soils during the nesting season. In this early morning capture, you can see the mist rolling over the greenery. Such a mystical magical scene, you can see why many think it is home to the elves.
